Spin, Statistics and Charge of Solitons in (2+1)-Dimensional Theories

چکیده
Abstract. General topologically invariant microscopical expressions for quantum numbers of particlelike solitons (“skyrmions”) are derived for a class of (2+1)D models. Skyrmions are either half-integer spin fermions with odd electric charge or integer spin bosons with even charge. So they cannot be Anderson’s spinons or holons. General results are exemplified by a square lattice model reminiscenting high-Tc models.

Spin-charge separated solitons in a topological band insulator.
In this Letter we construct a simple, controllable, two-dimensional model based on a topological band insulator. It has many attractive properties. (1) We obtain spin-charge separated solitons that are associated with dynamic pi fluxes. (2) These solitons obey Bose statistics and their condensation triggers a phase transition from a spin Hall insulator to an easy-plane ferromagnet. (3) It sugge...
متن کاملComposite multihump vector solitons carrying topological charge
We propose composite solitons carrying topological charge: multicomponent two dimensional [ (2+1)D] vector (Manakov-like) solitons for which at least one component carries topological charge. These multimode solitons can have a single hump or exhibit a multihump structure. The "spin" carried by these multimode composite solitons suggests 3D soliton interactions in which the particlelike behavio...
متن کاملTopological Character of Excitations in Strongly Correlated Electronic Systems: Confinement and Dimensional Crossover
Topologically nontrivial states are common in symmetry broken phases at macroscopic scales. Low dimensional systems bring them to a microscopic level where solitons emerge as single particles. The earliest and latest applications are conducting polymers and spin-Peierls chains. After a history introduction, we shall discuss the topological aspects of elementary excitations, especially the confi...
متن کاملQuantum dynamics of charged and neutral magnetic solitons: Spin-charge separation in the one-dimensional Hubbard model
We demonstrate that the configuration interaction ~CI! approximation recaptures essential features of the exact ~Bethe-ansatz! solution to the one-dimensional ~1D! Hubbard model. As such, it provides a valuable route for describing effects that go beyond mean-field theory for strongly correlated electron systems in higher dimensions. The CI method systematically describes fluctuation and quantu...
متن کاملSolitons in Chern-Simons Theories of Nonrelativistic CPN−1 Models: Spin Textures in the Quantum Hall Effect
Topological solitons in CPN−1 models coupled with a Chern-Simons gauge field and a Hopf term are studied both analytically and numerically. These models are lowenergy effective theories for the quantum Hall effect (QHE) with internal degrees of freedom, like the QHE in double-layer electron systems. These solitons correspond to skyrmions and merons which are charged quasi-excitations in the QHE...
